Boris Karas supervises the Intellectual Property Practice and Telecommunications Industry at the Firm, but the scope of his professional interests is much broader. In Gramatskiy and Partners Law Firm, Boris proved himself as a lawyer paying particular attention to details that other professionals might consider to be minor ones.
But, according to Mr. Karas, attention to details is the key to success. That is why Boris is often involved in supporting projects from different practices and industries that require specific expertise, as well as multifaceted analysis of large data, for example, during a complex Legal Due Diligence procedure. "Structuring facts, analyzing sources, gathering evidence and verifying hypotheses, preparing complex opinions constitute difficult, but the most beloved work that Boris does," – says Ernest Gramatskiy, the President of the Law Firm.
The desire to develop and to improve helps to achieve professional results and, at the same time, empowers one to conquer new heights. Being a dedicated follower of "a new type of thinking", Boris received degree in the UK (Sunderland University), and upon his return to Ukraine passed his Ph.D. defense in the specialism of "Administrative Law and Procedure".
Before joining the Firm, Boris had already practiced in the fields of IT, intellectual property and media law, including working at the legal department of the largest Ukrainian provider of telecommunications services. According to Mr. Karas, "Telecommunications are one of the few industries demonstrating growth in Ukraine, and their further development mostly depends on the quality of legal services provided for telecommunication companies. The role of a lawyer should not be reduced to providing boring advice in the form of extracts from laws. Foremost, a lawyer is a partner able to find several options for improving business and to propose optimal solutions to a situation without loading the client with legal subtle aspects".
For a long period of time in Gramatskiy and Partners Law Firm, Boris was involved in many projects, from advising foreign companies to supporting M&A deals in the telecommunications market. However, taking into account the dependence of the telecommunications business on the state, he also actively interacts with regulatory authorities: National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR), the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, the Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies, local self-government bodies
Boris has also had successful experiences protecting media companies in court, but according to him, his main advantage is the ability to promptly resolve daily legal issues faced by clients of Gramatskiy and Partners Law Firm. Boris Karas is the personification of a continuous desire for perfection, constant learning of new things and maintaining inner readiness for changes.
His main hobbies are traveling and classic works of literature.
